Description

A rich, buttery chocolate pie topped with a luscious coconut and pecan mixture that brings together family and friends.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup chilled butter
  • 4 oz German chocolate
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup toasted pecans
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • ½ cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in chilled butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Press the mixture into a pie dish and prick the bottom with a fork. Bake for 10 minutes or until lightly golden. Let cool.
  4. Melt German chocolate with butter in a saucepan over low heat, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly.
  5. In a mixing bowl, whisk together sugar, eggs, and evaporated milk until smooth. Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture.
  6. Pour the filling into the pre-baked pie crust. Bake for 30-35 minutes until set but slightly jiggly in the center.
  7. In a separate bowl, combine toasted pecans, coconut, and brown sugar. Once the pie has cooled for 10-15 minutes, spread the coconut mixture over the top.
  8. Return to the oven for another 10-15 minutes until the topping is golden brown. Let cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or chilled with whipped cream. Try adding a splash of vanilla extract for deeper chocolate flavor.
