- Melt the butter in a large saucepan over low heat, stirring gently.
- Add the marshmallows and stir continuously until completely melted and smooth.
- Mix in the vanilla extract and remove the saucepan from heat.
- Combine the rice cereal, gently folding it in to retain its airy texture.
- Transfer the mixture to the heart-shaped pan and press it down gently.
- Chill for about 30 minutes until set, then cut out heart shapes.
- Decorate with melted chocolate or sprinkles if desired.
