Deliciously creamy custard bars infused with aromatic spices and vibrant orange zest, perfect for holiday gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 4 large Eggs
  • 2 cups Heavy cream
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • Zest and juice of 1 Orange
  • 1 tsp Ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp Ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp Ground cloves
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup Butter (for greasing and crust)
  • 1 1/2 cups All-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare your baking dish: Grease a 9×9-inch pan or line it with parchment paper.
  3. Mix together melted butter, granulated sugar, and a pinch of salt. Add in flour until combined, and press firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake for about 10-12 minutes until golden.
  4. Whisk together eggs and sugar until frothy. Gradually add heavy cream, orange juice, and zest, followed by spices and vanilla, blending until smooth.
  5. Pour the custard mixture over the baked crust and gently tap the pan to release air bubbles.
  6. Bake for about 30-35 minutes, or until the filling is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
  7. Cool completely in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
  8. Slice into squares and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Best enjoyed chilled; serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
