Description
Delightful custard bars infused with the warmth of spices and the brightness of fresh oranges, perfect for holiday gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups heavy cream (or half-and-half)
- 1 cup fresh oranges, juice and zest
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk the eggs and sugar until pale and fluffy. Add the heavy cream, orange juice and zest, vanilla extract, and spices, mixing gently.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and bake for 30-35 minutes, until set but slightly jiggly in the center.
- Cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
- Enjoy warm or chilled, optionally with whipped cream or fresh berries.
Notes
For lighter bars, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or coconut cream for a dairy-free option. Allow bars to cool gradually for best texture.
