Description

Delightful custard bars infused with the warmth of spices and the brightness of fresh oranges, perfect for holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups heavy cream (or half-and-half)
  • 1 cup fresh oranges, juice and zest
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs and sugar until pale and fluffy. Add the heavy cream, orange juice and zest, vanilla extract, and spices, mixing gently.
  3. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and bake for 30-35 minutes, until set but slightly jiggly in the center.
  4. Cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
  5. Enjoy warm or chilled, optionally with whipped cream or fresh berries.

Notes

For lighter bars, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or coconut cream for a dairy-free option. Allow bars to cool gradually for best texture.
