  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 thick slices of rye or sourdough bread

  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons diced pickles
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Butter for toasting

Instructions

  1. Prepare the secret sauce: In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and pickles.
  2. Form the patties: Divide the ground beef into equal portions and form into patties, about ¾ inch thick.
  3. Sauté the onions: In a skillet, add oil or butter and cook the sliced onions until soft and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes.
  4. Cook the patties: In the same skillet, cook the burger patties seasoned with salt and pepper for about 4-5 minutes on each side. Add cheese during the last minute.
