Description
Deliciously soft naan bread made with cottage cheese, perfect for pairing with various dishes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup cottage cheese
- 1 cup Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup buttermilk (or milk with vinegar)
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2–3 cups all-purpose flour
- Fresh or dried herbs (like cilantro or green onions)
- 2 tablespoons butter (for brushing)
Instructions
- Mix the dough: In a large bowl, combine the cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, and buttermilk. Stir until well incorporated. Then, mix in the baking powder, garlic, and salt. Gradually add in the flour, a cup at a time, until a sticky dough forms.
- Knead: Dust your countertop with a little extra flour and turn the dough out. Knead gently for about 5-7 minutes until soft and elastic.
- Rest: Form a ball with your dough and place it back in the bowl, covering with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rest for about 30 minutes.
- Roll out: After resting, divide the dough into golf ball-sized pieces and roll each piece into a circle about ¼ inch thick.
- Cook: Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Brush one side of the rolled naan with melted butter, then place it butter-side down in the skillet. Cook for about 2-3 minutes until bubbles form, then flip and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Finish: Once all naan is cooked, brush tops with more melted butter and herbs. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
Keep naan warm by wrapping in a clean towel or placing in a low oven until ready to serve.
