- 2 cups cake flour (or all-purpose flour with cornstarch)
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 large eggs
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your cake pan.
- Mix the dry ingredients: In a bowl, combine cake flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cream the butter and sugar: Beat the unsalted butter and sugar until fluffy.
- Incorporate the eggs one at a time and then add the vanilla extract.
- Combine the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just mixed.
- Transfer the batter to your greased pan and tap gently to release air bubbles.
- Bake for about 25–30 minutes, until a toothpick comes out mostly clean.
- Let the cake cool for about 10 minutes before flipping it onto a wire rack.
- Prepare the frosting by beating cream cheese and butter, then adding confectioners’ sugar until smooth.
- Frost the cooled cake, reserving some frosting for the inside surprise.
