Description

A creamy, cheesy potato dish that embodies Southern hospitality, perfect for family gatherings and special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 onion, minced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh herbs (like thyme or parsley), for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Wash and peel the potatoes (if desired), then slice them thinly—around 1/8 inch.
  3. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat, then add minced garlic and onion, sautéing until fragrant.
  4. Incorporate heavy cream and bring to a simmer, then stir in salt, pepper, and cheddar cheese until melted.
  5. In a greased baking dish, layer the sliced potatoes and pour a portion of the cream sauce over each layer.
  6. Repeat until all potatoes and sauce are used, finishing with cream sauce and remaining cheese on top.
  7. Bake for 45-60 minutes until the edges are bubbling and the top is golden brown.
  8. Let it rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a lighter version, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream. Feel free to sprinkle additional herbs on top before serving.
