Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Wash and peel the potatoes (if desired), then slice them thinly—around 1/8 inch.
- In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat, then add minced garlic and onion, sautéing until fragrant.
- Incorporate heavy cream and bring to a simmer, then stir in salt, pepper, and cheddar cheese until melted.
- In a greased baking dish, layer the sliced potatoes and pour a portion of the cream sauce over each layer.
- Repeat until all potatoes and sauce are used, finishing with cream sauce and remaining cheese on top.
- Bake for 45-60 minutes until the edges are bubbling and the top is golden brown.
- Let it rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a lighter version, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream. Feel free to sprinkle additional herbs on top before serving.
