- 1 cup barbecue sauce
- 1 cup quick-cooking grits
- 4 cups water
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup milk or cream
- Salt to taste

Instructions
- Heat a heavy skillet and add oil over medium heat.
- Add chicken thighs, seasoning with salt and pepper, and cook until browned on both sides (5-7 minutes each side).
- Remove chicken from heat and coat in barbecue sauce, cover, and cook for an additional 20-25 minutes.
- Shred the chicken with two forks and return to the pan to absorb the barbecue sauce.
- Bring water to a boil in another saucepan and stir in a pinch of salt before whisking in grits.
- Lower the heat and cook the grits as per package instructions, stirring frequently.
- Mix in butter and milk or cream when the grits are close to done.
- Serve the creamy grits topped with shredded chicken and garnish with fresh herbs.
