Description
A delightful side dish that combines the natural sweetness of sweet potatoes with a kick of spice, perfect for any gathering.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 medium sweet potatoes
- 2 tablespoons butter (or olive oil for dairy-free)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon chili powder (or red pepper flakes)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional toppings: toasted pecans or a drizzle of brown sugar
Instructions
- Wash and peel the sweet potatoes, then cut them into evenly sized chunks.
- Place the sweet potatoes in a pot of salted water and bring to a boil. Cook for 15-20 minutes, or until fork-tender.
- Drain the potatoes and place them in a large bowl. Mash lightly, keeping some chunks for texture.
- In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
- Pour the sautéed garlic into the mashed sweet potatoes. Sprinkle in chili powder or red pepper flakes, and season with salt and pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Transfer to a serving dish and top with your choice of optional toppings. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
For a creamier texture, add a splash of milk or extra butter during mixing. Be careful not to over-mash for the best texture.
