Description

A delightful side dish that combines the natural sweetness of sweet potatoes with a kick of spice, perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium sweet potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons butter (or olive oil for dairy-free)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (or red pepper flakes)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional toppings: toasted pecans or a drizzle of brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Wash and peel the sweet potatoes, then cut them into evenly sized chunks.
  2. Place the sweet potatoes in a pot of salted water and bring to a boil. Cook for 15-20 minutes, or until fork-tender.
  3. Drain the potatoes and place them in a large bowl. Mash lightly, keeping some chunks for texture.
  4. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
  5. Pour the sautéed garlic into the mashed sweet potatoes. Sprinkle in chili powder or red pepper flakes, and season with salt and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  6. Transfer to a serving dish and top with your choice of optional toppings. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

For a creamier texture, add a splash of milk or extra butter during mixing. Be careful not to over-mash for the best texture.
