Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder (Dutch-processed)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk or yogurt
  • 1 cup dark chocolate, melted
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
  5. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  6. Alternate adding the flour mixture and buttermilk to the butter-sugar-egg mixture, mixing until just combined.
  7. Melt the dark and semi-sweet chocolate, then allow it to cool before folding it into the batter.
  8. Gently stir in the white chocolate chips.
  9. Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
  10. Let cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
