Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Whisk together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and a pinch of salt in a bowl.
- Cream the softened butter and brown sugar in a separate large bowl until light and fluffy.
- Add the molasses and egg (or flax egg), followed by the vanilla extract, and blend until fully incorporated.
- Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
- Chill the dough wrapped in plastic for about 60 minutes.
- Scoop and roll the dough into balls or cut into desired shapes, placing them on the baking sheets.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are firm and centers are soft.
- Cool them on a wire rack and then drizzle with icing made by whisking powdered sugar and milk.
